Spring Feed Hope

Feed Hope food collection begins March 11 for Spring Break 2024!

You can help!  Simply collect the breakfast and lunch items from the below list and bring to the Bertha Holt Elementary School office by 3pm, Monday, March 18th. We’ll be packing a week’s-worth of food for approximately 70 students.

Needed food items are:

  • canned entrees such as Beefaroni or Spaghettios, or microwavable noodles such as Mac & cheese
  • non-refrigerated milks
  • cups of fruit
  • granola bars
  • cereal boxes
  • cereal bars
  • fruit snacks or strips
  • boxes of crackers
  • pudding cups
  • boxes of crackers

100% of the food for this program comes from concerned neighbors like you, so please donate today!

Then help pack the food! Meet up in Holt cafeteria at 6:30pm on Tuesday, March 19th, and together we’ll pack the food into bags for our neighbors. Even young children can help, so bring the whole family!

What is Feed Hope?

Feed Hope was born out of a desire of Harlow residents to empower each other to meet hunger needs in this neighborhood. A large number of students at our elementary school face food insecurity and depend daily upon the Federal free and reduced lunch program for help with breakfast and lunch during the school year. During the summer, Food For Lane County helps to provide lunches.

But what about weekends and holiday breaks? We found that there was no existing program providing for these children during those times. So while other kids looked forward to the holidays, many children in our neighborhood instead faced a period of wondering where their next meal would come from.

We endeavor to empower neighbors to directly fill this gap by donating, collecting, packaging and delivering enough food to replace breakfast and lunch throughout the long holiday breaks.  We gather volunteers together twice per year at the school to package donated food items for local students with food insecurity.  So far our efforts have provided over 25,000 meals to area children, and in 2013 helped Harlow Neighborhood win the incredible honor of National Neighborhood of the Year!
